How does Race for Impact select the charities that it supports?

How do you know that they are truly impactful?

Updated today

Race for Impact supports highly effective interventions, delivered by world-leading organisations. Our selection process relies on rigorous research from trusted, independent evaluators such as GiveWell, The Life You Can Save, Giving Green, Founders Pledge, Happier Lives Institute, and Rethink Priorities. These organisations spend thousands of hours each year reviewing data, consulting experts, and stress-testing evidence to identify the highest performing programmes in the world. From these evaluators' shortlists, together with our independent subject matter experts, we curate balanced funds of effective interventions within each cause area.

Note that we don't evaluate organisations ourselves, nor do we direct funding towards pet projects. Our advisors typically identify cause areas based on three criteria: scale (how big is the problem?), neglectedness (how overlooked is it?), and tractability (can we make progress?). Then, within each cause area, they identify effective interventions with strong evidence of cost effectiveness. Finally, we select only the organisations that deliver those interventions best. These interventions often deliver 10 to 100 times more impact per donation than the average.

We conduct an annual review of our funds to ensure our evidence base remains accurate and current. The world changes. Evidence changes. So do we.

The result: your fundraising is working at maximum efficiency. When you race with us, your effort is not just helping. It is helping in the most powerful way possible.
